Obama turns to private sector to feed world’s poor

US President Barack Obama on Friday will announce an initiative with the private sector to set a goal of bringing 50 million people in the developing world out of poverty, officials said. Obama will pledge renewed commitment to feeding the world’s neediest as he gathers fellow leaders of the Group of Eight major industrialized powers for a weekend summit at the secluded Camp David retreat near Washington. The summit comes as pledges expire from 2009 in L’Aquila, Italy, where the Group of Eight promised more than $20 billion over three years to improve food access to Africans and others hit by the high prices and a global slowdown.   With the recovery still ..... read
